At least one person has been confirmed dead and several others wounded following a violent clash between Fulani herders and Gwari farmers in Kpowi village of Fuka District, Munya Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to local sources, the incident occurred on June 2, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m. The confrontation reportedly began as an argument over alleged trespassing on farmland and destruction of crops before escalating into violence.

What started as a verbal dispute quickly degenerated into a violent brawl between members of both communities, resulting in multiple casualties.

Casualties and Injuries

Security sources revealed that six individuals from the Fulani community sustained injuries during the clash. The injured were identified as Ahmadu Bature, Dauda Bello, Haruna Umaru, Shuaibu Bature, Bature Bello, and Safiya Auta.

Similarly, four members of the Gwari community were wounded in the confrontation. They were named as Yusuf Pada, Pius Pada, Dantala Yusuf, and Joshua Mai'anguwa.

All injured parties were rushed to the General Hospital in Kaffin-Koro for medical attention. Tragically, upon arrival at the facility, Ahmadu Bature was pronounced dead.

Security Response

In response to the incident, security forces have been deployed to the affected area to prevent further escalation of tensions between the two communities.

This clash adds to the growing concerns over farmer-herder conflicts in various parts of Nigeria, which have become increasingly common in recent years, often triggered by disputes over land use and resource allocation.

Local authorities are expected to initiate dialogue between the affected communities to address underlying issues and prevent future occurrences of such violent confrontations.
