Former Niger State lawmaker, Malik Madaki Bosso, has launched a scathing critique against Nigerian politicians, accusing them of deliberately perpetuating poverty and hunger as tools to manipulate citizens for political advantage.

In his Sallah message to residents, Bosso condemned the current political leadership for abandoning citizens in their time of need, only to exploit them during election periods.

Poverty Amidst Increased Revenue

"The people must reflect and reassess their condition. Though Sallah was meant to be celebrated with ease, poverty and lack have denied majority of the people this opportunity," Bosso stated.

The former lawmaker pointed out a troubling paradox: despite federal revenues doubling in recent times, poverty and insecurity continue to worsen across the nation.

"The highest money shared during the last government among the federal, state and local governments was about N750 billion. But now, the three tiers of government share about N1.4 to 2.4 trillion," he revealed.

How can you justify that despite this huge difference, there is increasing poverty and hunger? When there is a need for people in position of authority to help, they always complain that there's no money.

Election-Time Generosity, Post-Election Neglect

According to Bosso, politicians typically pretend to care for citizens only during elections, showering them with money to secure votes. However, once in office, these same politicians abandon the people, leaving them to struggle with poverty and insecurity.

He urged Nigerians to "resist the manipulation of greedy politicians who only care about their votes during elections" and to demand accountability and good governance from their leaders.

Call for Constitutional Responsibility

The former lawmaker called on government at all levels to prioritize the welfare and security of citizens, as mandated by the constitution. He emphasized that this responsibility should not be abandoned for political convenience.

Bosso also expressed particular concern for the people of Mokwa, who continue to suffer from the effects of devastating floods that hit their communities, urging politicians not to neglect them in their time of need.
