Niger State Governor, Muhammad Umaru Bago has announced a donation of N1 billion to victims of the recent flood disaster that ravaged Tiffin-Madza and Anguwan Hausawa communities in Mokwa local government area of the state.

The governor made this announcement during an on-site assessment of properties destroyed by the flood. While commiserating with affected residents, he urged them to avoid settling near waterways to prevent future loss of lives and properties.

Planned Infrastructure Improvements

Governor Bago disclosed plans to construct a permanent drainage system in Mokwa town along with concrete bridges as preventive measures against future flooding incidents.

"We commend all those that supported the affected victims in no small measure. The state government will do everything possible to resettle those affected by the flood directly or indirectly," he stated.

The governor also assured that all cash and material donations from the Federal Government, individuals, government agencies, and donor organizations would be properly utilized for their intended purpose.

Additional Measures

In a bid to enhance safety measures, Governor Bago urged Islamic teachers in the area to document pupils under their care to facilitate tracing them in case they go missing during such disasters.

The governor also offered prayers for those who lost their lives in the disaster.

Former military president Ibrahim Babangida reportedly described the incident as an act of God while expressing his condolences to the victims.
