Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have successfully rescued the traditional ruler of Dari community in Kokona Local Government Area, Emmanuel Omanji, who was kidnapped by gunmen last Wednesday.
According to a statement released by the command's spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, on Monday in Lafia, the monarch was rescued unhurt around 9 pm on Monday, June 2, 2025, after being held captive for five days.
Details of the Abduction and Rescue
The traditional ruler was whisked away from his residence on Wednesday night, May 28, by armed men who reportedly shot sporadically in the community during the attack. The police statement revealed that Omanji was rescued from the Panwasa Mountains, near Mada Station, following sustained pressure from the Command's Search and Rescue Team.
"Immediately after the rescue, the victim was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and has since been reunited with his family. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects involved in the abduction," Nansel stated.
Commendation for Collaborative Efforts
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, extended his appreciation to members of the public for their invaluable support and timely information, which significantly contributed to the successful rescue operation.
The Commissioner also commended the efforts and collaboration of other security agencies and local vigilante groups, noting that their support was instrumental to the success of the mission.
This rescue comes amid growing concerns about the security of traditional rulers in various parts of Nigeria, with several cases of abductions reported in recent months.
The police have not disclosed whether any ransom was paid for the monarch's release, but have assured the public that investigations are continuing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
