Four suspected kidnappers believed to be Fulani herdsmen were killed during a joint operation by police and local hunters in Abraka, Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State early Wednesday morning.
The security operatives also recovered an AK-47 rifle from the suspects during the operation. As of the time of reporting, the bodies of the deceased suspects were still on display at the Abraka Police Division.
While the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, a local human rights activist, Comrade Efemena Umukoro, has commended the efforts of the police and hunters.
In his statement, Umukoro praised the security forces for neutralizing the suspected kidnappers, emphasizing that bringing kidnappers to justice would benefit residents of Abraka and surrounding communities.
The operation marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping activities in Delta State, which has seen various security challenges in recent months.
This incident follows several other security operations across Nigeria aimed at tackling the rising wave of kidnappings and armed criminal activities, particularly in rural communities.
