The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully rescued the Sangarin Dari, a traditional ruler who was abducted on May 28, 2025, following a week-long search operation.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the monarch was freed unhurt around 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, during a coordinated operation conducted in the Panwasa Mountains, Mada Station.
The rescue operation was carried out by the Command's Search and Rescue Team following sustained pressure and intelligence-led efforts that culminated in the successful recovery of the traditional ruler.
"The traditional ruler was immediately taken to a medical facility for evaluation and has since been reunited with his family," Nansel stated in the release.
The Police spokesperson further revealed that efforts are currently underway to track down and apprehend the suspects connected to the abduction who fled during the rescue operation.
Community Collaboration Key to Successful Rescue
Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, expressed gratitude to the public for their timely information and support, which he described as instrumental to the success of the operation.
The Commissioner also commended the collaboration of other security agencies and local vigilante groups involved in the rescue mission, emphasizing that this successful operation highlights the effectiveness of community collaboration in combating crime and restoring peace in the state.
This rescue comes as a relief to the community following the monarch's abduction on May 28, which had raised concerns about the security situation in the area.
The Nasarawa State Police Command continues to urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities as they intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent similar incidents in the future.
