The Ebonyi State Police Command has apprehended Ezeoke Chidera, a resident of Egugho Ezzagu in Ishielu Local Government Area, for allegedly killing his neighbour, Mrs. Awoke Rose, aged about 60 years.

According to a statement released by the Ebonyi Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, the incident occurred on June 2, 2025, when authorities received a report at approximately 6:00 am about the violent attack.

The police report indicates that the suspect, who shared the same compound with the victim, allegedly attacked Mrs. Rose with a shovel, striking her multiple times before leaving her in a pool of blood.

Investigation Underway

"Officers of the command were able to apprehend the suspect; the command is currently investigating to understand the motive of the brazen attack," Ukandu stated in the official release.

The police have not yet disclosed what might have triggered the violent assault, but investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

This case adds to a series of violent crimes reported across the state in recent months, raising concerns about community safety in rural areas of Ebonyi State.

Local residents have expressed shock over the incident, as both the victim and suspect had reportedly been living in the same compound without any known previous altercations.
