The Niger State Police Command has apprehended twelve suspected miscreants following a coordinated raid on criminal hideouts across various locations in Minna, the state capital. During the operation, authorities also recovered five bags of cannabis, marking a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug-related crimes in the area.
According to SP Wasiu Abiodun, the command's Public Relations Officer, the suspects were arrested on June 1, 2025, at approximately 1 am. The operation was carried out by operatives attached to the Central Police Division in collaboration with local vigilante members.
Raid Locations and Arrests
The police raids targeted known criminal hideouts in Paida, Sabon-Gari, Gwari Market, and Abdulsalam Quarters. Among those arrested were Alhassan Yusuf, 25, from Barkin-Sale, as well as Abubakar Shehu and Hashiru Hamza, both 20 years old and residents of Kasuwan Gwari. Several of the apprehended suspects reportedly have pending cases at the police station.
In a significant development, five bags of suspected cannabis were recovered from a residence in Abdulsalam Quarters. Saifulahi Abubakar, an 18-year-old suspect found at the location, claimed the illicit substances belonged to one Dahiru, who remains at large.
Ongoing Investigation
SP Abiodun confirmed that all suspects are currently under investigation and will face court proceedings once investigations are concluded. The police operation represents part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and drug trafficking in Niger State.
This latest crackdown follows a pattern of intensified police action against criminal elements in the state, as authorities work to enhance security and reduce drug-related offenses in local communities.
