A female pilgrim from Plateau State, Hajiya Jamila Muhammad, has died while performing the holy pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The pilgrim reportedly died on Monday, June 2, 2025, due to complications related to diabetes.

The Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Daiyabu Dauda, confirmed the death in a press statement made available to journalists in Jos on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

According to the statement, Hajiya Muhammad died at the King Abdul'aziz Hospital in Mecca after suffering from diabetic complications, as confirmed by medical doctors.

"From God we are, and to him, we shall return. With heavy heart and total submission to the will of Allah, Plateau State has lost one of her female pilgrims, Hajiya Jamila Muhammad on Monday, 2nd June, 2025," the statement read in part.

Dauda explained that when the pilgrim's health condition was reported, he immediately directed the medical team to take her to the hospital for proper treatment, in line with directives from Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang.

The Executive Secretary extended heartfelt condolences to the Government of Plateau State, the deceased's immediate family, friends, and relatives over the loss. He prayed that Allah forgives her shortcomings and grants her the highest place in paradise.

The statement further revealed that the Amirul Hajj, along with other officials and relatives of the deceased, attended her funeral prayers at the grand mosque in Mecca. Following the prayers, she was buried according to Islamic rites.

This incident marks a somber moment for the Plateau State contingent participating in this year's Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
