Troops of the 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN have successfully recovered a hidden AK-47 rifle, magazine, and 30 rounds of ammunition in Pandam Forest, Qua'an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The recovery operation took place at approximately 1:20 p.m. on June 3, following credible intelligence reports that bandits had buried weapons in the forest while fleeing from troops of Operation LAFIYAN JAMA'A.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared details of the operation on social media platform X on Tuesday, quoting the Nigerian Army's account of the incident.
Discovery of Concealed Weapons
"During the search, troops discovered a freshly dug area, which was immediately excavated," according to the Nigerian Army statement. "They recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, all carefully concealed."
The military has confirmed that the recovered weapons are now in the custody of the troops, with further investigations ongoing to determine their origin and intended use.
This recovery comes amid intensified security operations across Plateau State, which has experienced various security challenges in recent months. The successful operation demonstrates the military's continued efforts to rid the region of illegal weapons that could be used to perpetrate violence.
The Nigerian Army has urged citizens to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to enhance their operations and ensure the safety of communities across the state.
