A pilgrim from Plateau State, identified as Hajiya Jamila Muhammad, has died in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, during the 2025 Hajj exercise due to complications from diabetes.

The Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr. Daiyabu Dauda, confirmed the death in a statement released to newsmen in Jos on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Muhammad passed away at the King Abdul'aziz Hospital in Makkah after receiving medical attention for her condition.

"When the complications began, we immediately took her to the hospital for proper medication in line with our mandate. Unfortunately, we lost her and the doctor at the hospital confirmed it was complications due to diabetes," Dauda said.

Second Nigerian Pilgrim Death

This marks the second reported death of a Nigerian pilgrim during the 2025 Hajj. Earlier, a 75-year-old female pilgrim from Edo State, Mrs. Danzumi Adizatu, also passed away in Makkah.

Adizatu, a native of Jattu Uzairue in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, died at King Fahad General Hospital after a brief illness. She had reportedly completed the Tawaaf ritual, the circumambulation of the Kaaba, before taking ill.

The Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Musah Uduimoh, confirmed that Adizatu was buried in Makkah on the same day, in accordance with Islamic tradition, and her family in Jattu Uzairue had been informed of her passing.

Nigerian pilgrims continue to face challenges during this year's Hajj, with reports earlier indicating that over 2,700 Nigerians missed the pilgrimage due to late payments, according to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
