The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the Northern region has announced the death of Rev. Fr. Dr. Polycarp Lubo, the Plateau State Chairman of the association. Fr. Lubo passed away early Sunday following a brief illness resulting from injuries sustained in a recent accident.
In a statement issued by Northern CAN Chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, the late Catholic priest was described as "a courageous and devoted servant of God who lived for truth, justice, peace, and the protection of the vulnerable."
A Legacy of Peace and Advocacy
Hayab highlighted Fr. Lubo's powerful declaration during the Plateau Peace Walk that "we deserve to live," which he said "captured the collective cry of victims of violence, displacement, and injustice in Plateau and across Nigeria."
The late chairman was also recognized for his significant contributions to interfaith collaboration, working alongside other faith leaders under the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development to promote immunization and support polio eradication efforts in Nigeria.
"Fr. Lubo brought financial accountability and administrative strength to the association in his role as treasurer. His passing has created a significant void within the Northern Christian community," Hayab noted in the statement.
Call to Honor His Legacy
The Northern CAN extended heartfelt condolences to the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos, the Plateau State CAN leadership, his parishioners, and the broader Christian family.
The association also urged security agencies and government institutions to honor Fr. Lubo's legacy by intensifying efforts to safeguard lives and promote justice across Plateau State and beyond.
Until his death, Fr. Lubo served as the Parish Priest of St. William's Catholic Church, Zawan, where he was widely known for his humility, jovial spirit, and cross-community engagement.
This comes amid ongoing security challenges in Plateau State, with recent reports of attacks in various communities across the region.
