Former Super Eagles captain Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has advised striker Victor Osimhen that he may need to "make sacrifices" when deciding his future in the current summer transfer window.
Osimhen's future remains uncertain following the conclusion of his season-long loan at Galatasaray, which expired at the end of May. The 26-year-old Nigerian international is expected to leave his parent club Napoli permanently this summer, with Galatasaray keen to secure his services on a long-term basis.
Speaking to Turkish broadcaster TRT Spor, Okocha, who previously played for Galatasaray's rivals Fenerbahçe, suggested that Turkey could be an ideal destination for Osimhen to continue his career.
"Turkey is a great place to play and live football," Okocha said. "Sometimes, you may need to make sacrifices when making decisions in football."
The former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder highlighted Osimhen's successful stint at Galatasaray, adding: "Osimhen had a great season at Galatasaray. Ultimately, he is happy there. Why should not he stay with the team? I love Turkey. He loves it too."
Osimhen enjoyed a prolific season with the Turkish champions, netting an impressive 37 goals across all competitions. His outstanding performance in the Turkish Super Lig earned him the Golden Boot award as the league's top scorer.
Despite Okocha's suggestion that Osimhen could benefit from remaining in Turkey, the striker has been linked with several clubs across Europe and Saudi Arabia. When asked about Osimhen's potential next destination, Okocha remained diplomatic.
"I don't know [his next destination]," he admitted. "Wherever he decides to go, I wish him the best."
As the transfer window progresses, Osimhen's decision will be closely watched by Nigerian football fans and European clubs alike, with his goal-scoring prowess making him one of the most sought-after strikers in the current market.
