Former Super Eagles press officer, Colin Udoh, has expressed strong criticism of European football clubs for their treatment of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, claiming they have collectively "failed" the 26-year-old talent.

Udoh's comments come amid ongoing transfer speculation surrounding Osimhen, who spent last season on loan at Turkish side Galatasaray. Despite his proven goal-scoring ability, European clubs appear hesitant to secure his services.

"European club football failed Osimhen," Udoh wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account. "I dare anyone to list 10 of Europe's best strikers right now without Osimhen. Scratch that, make it 5."

Saudi Interest Grows as European Options Diminish

Currently, Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal appears to be the most interested party in acquiring Osimhen's services. Reports suggest they have made significant progress in negotiations, with some sources indicating they have agreed to a €75 million deal and are arranging travel and medical examinations for the striker.

This development marks a significant shift in Osimhen's career trajectory, as he was previously linked with several top European clubs. Chelsea, in particular, were close to signing the Nigerian international last summer but have now reportedly opted to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town instead.

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel recently commented on the situation, acknowledging that his former club would not be pursuing Osimhen while expressing hope that Delap would perform well for the Blues.

Nigerian Star's Uncertain Future

Osimhen has reportedly returned to Nigeria as he contemplates his next move. His absence was noted during Nigeria's recent match against Russia, with Russian player Shchetinin lamenting that he couldn't face the prolific striker.

The situation highlights the complex dynamics of modern football transfers, particularly for African players who, despite world-class abilities, sometimes face different career trajectories compared to their European counterparts.

Galatasaray, where Osimhen spent his loan period, has reportedly been warned about the potential financial implications of attempting to sign him permanently.

As the transfer saga continues, football fans across Nigeria and beyond will be watching closely to see where one of Africa's premier strikers will continue his career.
