Russian international Mikhail Shchetinin has expressed disappointment over Victor Osimhen's absence during Friday night's international friendly match between Russia and Nigeria, which ended in a 1-1 draw at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

The Napoli striker, currently sorting out his future following the expiration of his loan deal with Galatasaray, was not included in the Super Eagles squad for the friendly encounter.

Speaking after the match, Shchetinin described Osimhen's absence as a "shame" and admitted he was looking forward to facing the 26-year-old Nigerian star.

"To be honest, it is a shame that not all the Nigerian team players came," Shchetinin told championat. "It would've been interesting to see Osimhen from Galatasaray."

Despite his disappointment, the Russian player acknowledged the quality of the Nigerian team that faced them. "A good team came to Russia. [Victor] Boniface. It was interesting to see them," he added.

Why Osimhen Missed the Friendly

According to reports, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle decided not to include Osimhen in the squad to face Russia as the striker is currently focused on resolving his club future. The forward's loan spell at Turkish giants Galatasaray has ended, and he is reportedly in talks with several clubs regarding his next move.

The friendly match saw Nigeria break Russia's six-year attendance record, highlighting the growing international appeal of the Super Eagles despite missing some of their star players.

Nigeria's Taiwo Arokodare scored for the Super Eagles, marking his maiden international goal, while Russia's goalkeeper Matvey Safonov made an error that led to the Nigerian goal, though coach Chelle later defended him saying "everyone makes mistakes."
