The Kebbi State Government has directed the closure of all public and private schools across the state for 11 days to observe the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, according to an official circular from the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education.

The holiday period will commence on Wednesday, June 4, and continue until Sunday, June 15, 2025, providing students and staff an extended break for the annual Islamic festival.

Abubakar Jabbo, Director of Quality Assurance, signed the directive on behalf of the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education. According to the circular, the extended break aims to allow Muslim students and staff to participate fully in the religious festivities without academic distractions.

The 11-day holiday represents a significant extension compared to the typical two to three-day Sallah break observed in many Muslim-majority regions. This extended closure is expected to impact academic schedules, particularly for private institutions that may be preparing students for upcoming examinations.

Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah's command.

School administrators are expected to adjust their academic calendars accordingly to accommodate the extended break while ensuring educational objectives for the term are still met upon students' return.
