The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has issued a directive for all district heads under the Kano Emirate to assemble in Kano city ahead of the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir durbar celebration.
According to a letter released by Alhaji Abba Yusuf Danmakwayon Kano, Secretary of the Kano Emirate Council, the district heads and other members of the traditional council are required to arrive with their horses and ceremonial riders on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, corresponding to the 8th of Dhul Hijjah, 1446 AH.
"They are to pay homage to the Emir at the palace on Thursday, June 5, by 11:00 a.m.," the official statement indicated.
Following the homage ceremony, the Emir will convene a meeting with the district heads at the council chamber in Kofar Kudu to provide comprehensive details about the durbar plans and arrangements.
The statement further revealed that local government chairmen across the emirate have been instructed to provide transportation assistance to the traditional leaders from their respective locations to Kano for the significant cultural event.

The durbar is a colorful horse parade that holds immense cultural significance in northern Nigeria, particularly in Kano. It features horsemen dressed in traditional regalia displaying their riding skills and paying homage to the Emir.
This annual celebration coinciding with Eid-el-Kabir attracts tourists and cultural enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond, showcasing the rich heritage and traditions of the Kano Emirate.
The gathering of all district heads in the city center represents not only a religious obligation but also reinforces the traditional hierarchical structure of the emirate system, with the Emir at its apex.
