Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas have categorically denied reports claiming they are in transfer negotiations with Nigerian winger Henry Onyekuru, dismissing the rumors as "completely baseless" in an official statement released on their website.
"The news published in visual and social media, claiming that our club has held transfer negotiations with professional footballer Henry Onyekuru, is completely baseless," the Istanbul-based club stated firmly.
The statement comes after several Turkish news outlets reported last week that the Black Eagles were interested in acquiring the services of the versatile 27-year-old Nigerian international.
Onyekuru, who is approaching the end of his contract with Saudi Arabia Professional League club Al Fahya, is no stranger to Turkish football, having previously played for Galatasaray and Adana Demirspor during his career.
The winger's potential availability as a free agent has apparently sparked interest across various clubs, though Besiktas has now made it clear they are not among his suitors at this time.
Onyekuru's previous stints in Turkey were marked with some success, particularly at Galatasaray, making him a familiar figure in Turkish football circles. His experience in the Super Lig, combined with his approaching free agent status, had made the transfer speculation seem plausible until Besiktas's official denial.
With the summer transfer window approaching, the Nigerian international's next destination remains uncertain as he considers his options beyond his current Saudi Arabian club.
