The Kano State Government has announced that all primary and post-primary schools across the state will observe Eid-el-Kabir holiday beginning Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
According to a statement issued by Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Education, the holiday period will extend until Sunday, June 15, 2025, for boarding school students, while day students are expected to resume classes on Monday, June 16, 2025.
"Parents and guardians of students in boarding schools are requested to pick up their children by the early hours of Wednesday, June 4, 2025," the statement directed.
The Ministry further clarified that other aspects of the 2024/2025 academic calendar, including official public holidays, remain unchanged despite the Sallah break.
Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, the Commissioner for Education, expressed gratitude to parents for their continued support and urged them to ensure their children return to school promptly after the holiday period.
"I want to use this opportunity to appreciate the usual support and cooperation given to the Ministry by the good people of the state and also wish the students and pupils a successful Sallah break," the Commissioner stated.
Eid-el-Kabir, also known as Sallah, is one of the most significant Islamic festivals celebrated worldwide, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah's command.
The holiday announcement comes as part of the state government's commitment to allowing students and their families adequate time to prepare for and celebrate the important religious festival.
