An Ota Magistrates' Court in Ogun State has ordered the remand of 24-year-old Habeeb Jimoh, an ex-convict, for allegedly breaking into a bar and stealing items valued at N595,000.

Jimoh, whose address was not provided in court, was charged with stealing a Zealot speaker, an Infinix phone, and other valuables belonging to one Tosin Okegbenro. Despite pleading not guilty to the charge, the court ordered his detention.

Magistrate O.O. Fadairo, who presided over the case on Monday, justified the remand order on grounds that the defendant's status as an ex-convict raised concerns that he might abscond if granted bail. The case has been adjourned until June 3 for further hearing.

During the court proceedings, Inspector E.O. Adaraloye, the prosecutor, informed the court that Jimoh had broken into the complainant's bar to commit the theft. The prosecutor noted that the alleged offense contravenes Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about repeat offenders within the Nigerian criminal justice system and the judicial approach to handling cases involving individuals with prior convictions.
