The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi, has issued a stark warning about Nigeria's security situation, stating that the country is already in crisis with citizens living alongside terrorist groups.
Speaking at former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi's 60th birthday celebration, Sanusi addressed those cautioning against actions that might plunge the nation into crisis.
"For all those who are saying we have to be careful before we get into a crisis, please wake up. We are living with bandits and Boko Haram; we are already there," the Emir declared.
He emphasized the urgency of the situation, adding: "We are already in crisis, it has already happened, the question is how do we get out of it."
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) also criticized the country's leadership, attributing the multi-dimensional poverty affecting millions of Nigerians to poor governance. According to Sanusi, the Nigerian elite remain disconnected from the harsh realities of poverty experienced by ordinary citizens.
His comments come amid escalating security challenges across the country, with bandits and insurgents continuing to terrorize various communities, particularly in the northern regions.
Recent incidents reported include killings and mass abductions in Kebbi and Zamfara states, as well as attacks on communities in Niger State, highlighting the persistent security threats facing the nation.
The Emir's warning serves as a sobering reminder of Nigeria's security challenges and calls for immediate action rather than rhetoric in addressing these pressing issues.
