The Ogun State Government has donated N1 million to each family of the 22 Kano athletes who lost their lives in a fatal auto crash while returning from the National Sports Festival held in Ogun State.

Governor Dapo Abiodun sent a high-powered delegation led by Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele to Kano State to convey his condolences and make the donations to the bereaved families.

The delegation, which included Secretary to the State Government Tokunbo Talabi, Commissioner for Sports Wasiu Isiaka, and Executive Secretary of the LOC, Dr. Kweku Tandoh, was received by Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu AbdulSalam Gwarzo.

During the visit, the Ogun State team prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and quick recovery for those still receiving treatment in hospitals following the tragic accident.

Comrade Gwarzo, while receiving the delegation, expressed appreciation for the condolences and revealed that Governor Abiodun had earlier called to personally register his sympathy over the tragic incident.

The fatal accident, which claimed the lives of 22 athletes and officials from Kano State, occurred as they were returning home after participating in the National Sports Festival hosted by Ogun State.

This gesture by the Ogun State Government comes as part of efforts to support the families of the victims during this difficult period and strengthen interstate relations in the face of the tragedy.
