Troops from 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven have successfully neutralized several bandits during an offensive operation conducted at hideouts along the fringes of Pinau Village in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a statement released by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven, the military operation was based on credible intelligence about criminal elements in the area.
The statement revealed that some bandits managed to escape with gunshot wounds, as evidenced by bloodstains discovered along their escape routes. The troops recovered an AK-47 rifle and magazine during the operation, which have been taken into custody for further action.
"Follow-up operations are ongoing to intercept the fleeing criminals," Major Zhakom stated, indicating the military's commitment to pursuing the escaped bandits.
This operation comes amid ongoing security challenges in various parts of Plateau State, where banditry and other forms of violent crimes have affected local communities. The successful neutralization of these bandits represents a significant step in the military's efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
The military has not disclosed the exact number of bandits neutralized during the operation, but described it as "several" in their official communication.
Security operations have intensified across Nigeria's Middle Belt region, where Plateau State is located, as authorities work to address the persistent challenges of banditry, communal conflicts, and other security threats affecting rural communities.
