Nigeria's First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed profound grief over the devastating floods that claimed more than 100 lives in Niger State, describing the incident as "very saddening."

The tragic flooding occurred on Wednesday, May 28, and Thursday, May 29, 2025, affecting Mokwa, Tiffin Maza, and Anguwan Hausawa communities in Niger State.

In her condolence message released on Saturday, the First Lady attributed the disaster to "torrential rainfall and the geographical terrain of the State."

"My heartfelt condolences and sympathy goes to the Niger State Governor, His Excellency, Hon Mohammed Umar Bago, and the good people of Niger State," Mrs. Tinubu stated.

She added, "This devastating flooding, which led to loss of lives and properties due to torrential rainfall and the geographical terrain of the State is very saddening."

The First Lady offered prayers for the affected families, saying, "I sincerely pray that God in his infinite mercies gives the families, friends and loved ones of those affected the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss and God grant the departed souls eternal peace and rest."

Reports indicate that besides the significant loss of life, numerous homes were washed away in the disaster, leaving many residents displaced and properties destroyed.

This flooding incident adds to Niger State's history of vulnerability to seasonal floods, often exacerbated by its geographical location and heavy rainfall patterns during certain periods of the year.

The Nigeria Governors' Forum has also reportedly extended condolences to the Niger State government over the devastating flood.
