A major telecommunications service disruption has left thousands of residents in Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara states without access to mobile communication and internet services since Thursday evening.
The network blackout, affecting a leading Nigerian telecommunications provider, has created significant challenges for residents across multiple communities in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, forcing many to either switch to alternative networks or remain completely disconnected.
Jafar Hamid, a resident of Birnin Kebbi, described the situation as frustrating. "There's no service since last night. Calls are not going through, and we can't do any online transactions," he told our correspondent.
Impact on Students and Businesses
The service disruption has particularly affected students and business owners who rely on mobile connectivity for daily activities. A student from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, identified as Aminu, shared how the outage has disrupted campus life.
"One student couldn't go home last night because he couldn't transfer money due to the blackout. He had to sleep in class," Aminu explained, highlighting the real-world consequences of the network failure.
The outage extends beyond Kebbi State, with residents in neighboring Sokoto and Zamfara states confirming similar disruptions. Mujahid Aliyu Morai, from Morai in Zamfara State, confirmed that the network issues have persisted in his area as well.
"This is not just in Kebbi; we are affected here too," Morai stated, adding that there has been no official explanation for the extended service interruption.
No Timeline for Resolution
As of the time of this report, the telecommunications company has not issued an official statement regarding the cause of the outage or provided an estimated timeline for service restoration.
The prolonged network blackout continues to disrupt daily activities, affecting financial transactions, communication, and access to online services for residents across the three northwestern states.
BenriNews will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
