Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed following a fire outbreak at a residential building in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The incident occurred on Monday, June 2, 2025, at approximately 3:09 PM at House 10 Avocado Crescent, Akuru Hassan Block, Unity Estate Elebu, located in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State.

According to sources, the fire ravaged several rooms in the private residential building, which consists of twin flats. While no casualties were reported, the blaze caused significant damage to the property.

Hon. Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a statement made available on Wednesday, June 3. He attributed the cause of the fire to electric sparks from an air conditioning system.

"The distressed call was reported at exactly 15:09hrs on Monday, 2nd June, 2025. No casualty was recorded but the fire severely affected the building. The fire was as a result of electric sparks from the Air Conditioning system," Akinwande stated.

This incident adds to a series of recent structural and safety concerns in Ibadan, including reports of building collapses and electrical accidents that have made headlines in recent weeks.

Residents are advised to regularly inspect their electrical systems and appliances to prevent similar incidents, especially during the current season when electrical faults are more common.
