The Oyo State Government has sealed off a building that collapsed during reconstruction in Ibadan, the state capital. The action was taken on Monday following an on-the-spot assessment of the site.

The collapsed structure, located on the main road from Dugbe to Mokola, came down during a rainstorm that affected parts of Ibadan on Sunday night.

Williams Akin-Funmilayo, Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, announced the sealing of the building after conducting an assessment of the collapse site. He explained that the government's action was aimed at preventing casualties and ensuring the safety of lives and properties in the area.

"The sealing of this building will allow the government to conduct a thorough investigation and produce adequate reports on the cause of the incident," Akin-Funmilayo stated.

The commissioner further revealed that integrity tests would be carried out on the collapsed building and other similar properties across the state to prevent future occurrences. He emphasized that the outcome of these tests would determine the government's next course of action.

This incident comes amid growing concerns about building standards and construction practices in urban areas. The Oyo State Government has been taking steps to enforce building regulations to ensure structural integrity and public safety.

No casualties have been reported in connection with the collapse, though investigations are still ongoing. Residents and business owners in the area have been advised to stay clear of the sealed site until further notice.
