A 22-year-old graduate of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Feranmi Akin-Akinye, has been laid to rest following his tragic fall from the 26th floor of the iconic Cocoa House building in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Akin-Akinye, who was undergoing cybersecurity training at a company located on the eighth floor of the building, was buried on Tuesday in a ceremony conducted by Winners Chapel.

Circumstances Surrounding the Tragedy

According to a reliable source who requested anonymity, Akin-Akinye was allegedly instructed to mount a large wall banner at the top of Cocoa House—a task that would typically be assigned to professionals equipped with proper safety gear.

"I blame the company for his death. He came from a good home, was humble, and respectful. They asked him to perform a task meant for professionals, and due to his humility, he complied," the source revealed.

The young man reportedly lived with his mother in the Meridian area of Apata, Ibadan, while his father is based in the United States.

Allegations of Cover-Up

The source further alleged that the company attempted to downplay the incident by claiming Akin-Akinye was taken to an emergency ward despite having already passed away. The source also claimed that the company failed to contact his mother following the incident.

Additionally, it was alleged that the company prevented a radio station within Cocoa House from taking photographs and quickly covered Akin-Akinye's body after the fall.

Family members, particularly the deceased's paternal relatives, are reportedly considering legal action against the company for alleged negligence that led to the young graduate's untimely death.

This incident has raised serious questions about workplace safety protocols and the assignment of hazardous tasks to trainees without proper safety equipment or training.
