Troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Operation Safe Haven have successfully arrested a suspected militia member and recovered arms during a clearance operation in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The operation, conducted in the early hours of Friday, followed credible intelligence regarding the suspect's location in Hura village, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama who disclosed this information via social media platform X.

Military personnel moved swiftly to apprehend the suspect, who reportedly surrendered without resistance. A subsequent raid on the suspect's hideout yielded significant recoveries including one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 26 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, ₦2,500 in cash, and items believed to be charms.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect is allegedly a member of a criminal syndicate linked to the recent killing of a herder and the rustling of 1,250 cows in Tomborong village, Riyom Local Government Area, on May 27.

"The suspect is currently in custody and cooperating with investigators on the identities and locations of other members of the syndicate and their cache of weapons," a military source informed Makama.

The Nigerian Army has intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the remaining members of the group responsible for criminal activities in the area. This operation represents part of ongoing security measures to address militia-related violence in Plateau State, which has experienced recurring conflicts between farming communities and herders.

The successful operation comes amid heightened security concerns in various parts of the state, with authorities working to prevent further escalation of violence and ensure the safety of local communities.
