The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully recovered an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, 45 rounds of live ammunition, and a suspected stolen motorcycle during a targeted security operation in Keana Local Government Area.

According to a statement released on Sunday by SP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer for Nasarawa State, the recovery was made following credible intelligence about the movement of a suspected arms trafficker in the area.

Strategic Operation Details

"The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately ordered a coordinated manhunt based on the intelligence received," Nansel explained in the statement.

Following these directives, police operatives from the Giza Division established a strategic stop-and-search checkpoint along the Giza-Kadarko Road. During the operation, officers attempted to intercept a suspicious individual riding an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle.

However, upon seeing the police checkpoint, the suspect abandoned the motorcycle and fled into a nearby bush, successfully evading arrest despite immediate pursuit by the officers.

Recovered Items

A thorough search of the abandoned motorcycle revealed:

  • One AK-47 rifle with Breach No. 0413

  • Two loaded magazines

  • Forty-five rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition

  • An unregistered Bajaj motorcycle

The PPRO stated that the discovery points to possible criminal activity in the region, and efforts are currently ongoing to apprehend the suspect and determine both the source and intended destination of the recovered weapons.

"The Nasarawa State Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents," Nansel added.

This operation comes amid growing concerns about arms trafficking and insecurity in various parts of the country, with security agencies intensifying efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons.
