The Sokoto State Police Command has unveiled a comprehensive security strategy aimed at ensuring a hitch-free Eid-al-Kabir celebration across the state.
Commissioner of Police Ahmed Musa convened a high-level security meeting with Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) at the Command Headquarters to finalize deployment strategies and strengthen inter-agency collaboration ahead of the festivities.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa'i, the police force is fully prepared to maintain peace and order throughout the celebration period.
Key Security Measures
The security strategy includes massive deployment of police personnel to critical locations including Eid prayer grounds, recreation centers, major markets, and entry/exit points across all 23 Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.
CP Musa has directed intensified foot and vehicular patrols, alongside intelligence-driven surveillance operations to deter criminal elements. The command is also implementing detailed plans for crowd control and traffic management to prevent congestion and ensure smooth movement around high-traffic areas.
"The Eid al-Kabir celebration requires utmost dedication and vigilance," the Commissioner emphasized, noting that the focus is on crime prevention, effective crowd management, and rapid response to any emerging situations.
Collaborative Approach
The police command highlighted collaborative efforts with other security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community vigilantes as part of a unified front for public safety.
Residents and visitors should expect a highly visible police presence throughout the celebration period, according to the statement.
Warning Against Fake Currency
The police commissioner raised specific concerns over the circulation of fake currency during the Sallah period, particularly targeting cattle markets. He has urged DPOs to sensitize traders within their jurisdictions and advised livestock dealers to be extra vigilant in their financial transactions.
CP Musa called on the public to remain security conscious and to cooperate fully with security operatives. He encouraged the timely reporting of suspicious activities through the command's emergency numbers: 08032345167 and 08032861946.
The Sokoto State Police Command has reassured all Muslim faithful and residents of its firm commitment to ensuring a peaceful and joyous Eid celebration.
