Nigerian military forces have eliminated over 60 terrorists during a coordinated operation in Borno State, marking a significant advancement in the country's counterterrorism efforts.

The Army Headquarters confirmed in a statement posted on its Facebook page on Friday that troops of Operation Hadin Kai conducted a simultaneous land and air assault on terrorist positions in Bita, Borno State in the early hours of Friday.

"In a decisive and coordinated operation, gallant troops of Operation Hadin Kai launched a simultaneous land and air assault on terrorist positions in Bita, Borno State, in the early hours of today. The intense battle resulted in the neutralization of at least 60 terrorists," the statement read.

This operation is part of an intensified military campaign against insurgents in Nigeria's northern region. Earlier this week, dozens of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists were killed by troops in New Marte, Marte local government area of Borno State. That encounter, however, resulted in the loss of two soldiers.

The successful operations come as the Nigerian military continues to restrategize its approach to combating insurgency in the northeastern region, which has suffered from terrorist activities for over a decade.

Security experts have noted that these recent successes demonstrate improved tactical coordination between air and ground forces, potentially signaling a turning point in the fight against terrorism in the region.

The military has not yet released details about weapons recovered or other materials seized during the operation, but continues to encourage citizens to provide information that could aid in identifying and neutralizing remaining terrorist cells in the region.
