Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has extended his sympathies to residents of Mokwa Local Government Area following a devastating flood that claimed multiple lives and destroyed property.

In a message delivered through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago described the incident as "saddening, heartbreaking and pathetic," particularly noting the significant loss of lives and property.

"I express my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and property in the unfortunate incident, and pray that Allah will grant the deceased Aljanna Firdausi as well as grant a quick recovery to the injured," the governor stated.

The disaster primarily affected Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa communities in Mokwa town after several hours of heavy rainfall led to severe flooding, submerging numerous buildings and resulting in fatalities.

Emergency Response Activated

Governor Bago has directed the Niger State Emergency Management Agency and other relevant stakeholders to take immediate action. The agencies have been instructed to assess the extent of destruction and provide relief to affected residents.

The governor urged Mokwa residents to remain calm, assuring them that the state government would work tirelessly to ensure everyone's safety during this difficult period.

This flood disaster comes as the latest challenge for Niger State, which has experienced several severe weather events in recent years. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation as recovery efforts begin in the affected communities.
