The Nigeria Police Force has announced the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Garba Ahmed as the new zonal police chief for Zone One, with headquarters in Kano. AIG Ahmed has officially assumed office and will oversee police operations in Kano and Jigawa states.

According to a press release issued by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Bashir Muhammad, AIG Ahmed brings over thirty years of policing experience to his new role, having served in various capacities within the Nigeria Police Force.

Professional Background

Born on December 14, 1966, in Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State, AIG Ahmed holds a Bachelor's degree in History from Bayero University Kano (1988) and a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Maiduguri (1995).

He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent and has since served in numerous commands across Nigeria, including Borno, Ebonyi, Kaduna, Abuja, Gombe, Lagos, Enugu, Oyo, and Yobe. His career spans leadership, operational, administrative, and educational units within the force.

Prior to his current appointment, AIG Ahmed served at the Force Headquarters as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

Training and Expertise

Throughout his career, AIG Ahmed has undergone several advanced training courses both within Nigeria and internationally. Notable among these is his specialized training in criminal justice administration at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in the United States.

He is recognized for his expertise in investigation, surveillance, operations, community policing, and conflict resolution. The new zonal police chief has also demonstrated strong capabilities in communications, crisis intervention, and law enforcement procedures.

Vision for Kano and Jigawa

In his inaugural remarks, AIG Ahmed appealed to residents of Kano and Jigawa states to support police efforts by providing timely and useful information to help reduce crime in the region.

He cautioned citizens against taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that they should allow the police to fulfill their mandate of maintaining peace and delivering justice.

The new police chief also declared a zero-tolerance stance on corruption while affirming his commitment to community partnership policing. He stressed that his administration would prioritize professionalism and ethical conduct in all police operations under his jurisdiction.
