Troops of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Shendam in Plateau State have neutralized three suspected bandits during a successful ambush operation conducted on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

The operation, which took place around 2:00 p.m. between Teng and Kayarda villages in Qua'an Pan Local Government Area, was based on actionable intelligence about a planned attack by the bandits in the area.

According to intelligence sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the military personnel strategically positioned themselves along the route linking the two villages after receiving credible information about the bandits' movements.

"Troops acting on credible intelligence laid an ambush along the route linking Teng and Kayarda villages. During the operation, they engaged the suspected bandits in a firefight, neutralised three of them, and recovered four AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and 56 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition," the source revealed.

Part of Broader Security Operations

The source further explained that the operation was conducted as part of proactive measures under Operation Lafiyan Jama'a, aimed at maintaining stability and deterring security threats in the region.

This latest operation comes amid intensified military activities across Plateau State in response to recent security challenges. The Nigerian military has reportedly stepped up coordinated operations to protect vulnerable rural communities from attacks by armed groups.

Plateau State has experienced recurring security issues in recent years, with bandits and other armed groups targeting remote villages and communities. The successful ambush operation represents a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the state.

Military authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the operation, but sources indicate that similar security measures will continue in identified hotspots across the state.
