The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has apprehended 33 male suspects during a coordinated clean-up operation across Lagos Island in the early hours of Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
The operation, which commenced around 1:30 a.m., targeted several hotspots identified for illicit activities, including Victoria Island, Falomo Bridge, Ligali Ayorinde Street, Ikoyi, and surrounding streets.
Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrests in a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, describing the raid as part of ongoing efforts to restore order and ensure public safety in the state.
"In continuation of the agency's clean up enforcement operation to rid the State of criminal elements, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce set out at about 1:30am on Wednesday, 28th May, 2025 and embarked on its ongoing clean up enforcement operation on the Island," Wahab stated.
The Commissioner further detailed that the areas visited during the operation included Victoria Island, Falomo Bridge, Ligali Ayorinde Street, Ikoyi, and other adjoining streets "where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed."
"During the raid exercise, a total number of 33 male suspects were arrested and sanity was restored in all the areas," he added.
According to the Commissioner, all the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.
This operation appears to be part of broader efforts by Lagos State authorities to address security concerns and environmental issues in upscale areas of the city, which have occasionally been plagued by the presence of unauthorized individuals engaging in various forms of illegal activities.
The early morning timing of the raid suggests a strategic approach to apprehend suspects during hours when they might be less vigilant, potentially increasing the effectiveness of the operation.
