The Lagos State Government has apprehended six individuals for illegally dumping refuse on a road median along the Old Abeokuta Expressway, opposite the Total filling station in Agege.
The arrests were executed on Wednesday evening through a coordinated effort by a joint enforcement team comprising operatives from the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) unit and officials from the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.
Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, confirmed the incident via his verified X handle, stating that the offenders were caught in the act of indiscriminate waste disposal.
The six suspects have been identified as Khalifa Mohammed, Sanusi Bello, Monsuru Salisu, Uzor Michael, Michael Obi, and Ajoke Shobande.
According to the commissioner, the apprehended individuals will face prosecution in accordance with existing environmental laws designed to combat indiscriminate waste disposal and promote a cleaner, healthier Lagos environment.
This enforcement action aligns with the Lagos State Government's ongoing efforts to maintain environmental sanitation and ensure proper waste management practices across the metropolis.
The incident highlights the government's zero-tolerance approach toward environmental violations as authorities continue to crack down on illegal waste disposal practices that threaten public health and urban aesthetics.
