According to official reports, officials from LAWMA's Monitoring and Compliance Department conducted the operation that led to the arrests. The vehicle used in committing the environmental offense has been impounded and is currently being held at LAWMA's Ogudu office.
Following their apprehension, the suspects were handed over to the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Task Force for further action. The Commissioner confirmed that they will face charges in court in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.
This enforcement action comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to address illegal waste disposal practices that threaten public health and environmental sustainability in Nigeria's most populous city.
Environmental experts have long highlighted the negative impacts of improper waste disposal, including pollution of water bodies, blockage of drainage systems leading to flooding, and various public health hazards.
