The Nigeria Police Force, Kano State Command has arrested the principal suspect in the murder of a 22-year-old housewife in Kano.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, 35-year-old Shu'aibu AbdulKadir of Madatai quarters has been apprehended in connection with the killing of Rumaisa Haruna.
The victim was discovered by her husband, Ibrahim Mohammed, with severe neck injuries at their residence in Farawa quarters. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect was arrested at Tsamiya Duhuwa on April 6, 2025, following investigations into the incident. Police authorities confirmed that AbdulKadir has confessed to the crime.
"The suspect has confessed to the crime, admitting trespassing into the victim's matrimonial home, and stabbing her with a knife on the neck, resulting in her death," the police statement read.
The Command further stated that upon completion of investigations, the suspect would be charged to court to face justice.
Kano Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the detectives handling the case for their diligence and urged the public to remain vigilant. He also reassured residents of the police's commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
This arrest comes amid growing concerns about domestic security in various parts of the country, with authorities intensifying efforts to combat violent crimes.
