A tragic incident occurred in Adamawa State on Sunday when Police Inspector Musa Kampani lost his life after being struck by a stray bullet during a routine patrol operation.

The incident took place around 11:00 a.m. on the Song–Gombi Road in Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State, according to sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama.

Reports indicate that the tragedy unfolded when police officers on patrol intercepted a tricycle carrying a civilian in plain clothes who was found in possession of a Dane gun. The situation escalated when the individual failed to provide valid identification or proper licensing for the weapon.

During the ensuing standoff, members of the local Hunters and Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) arrived at the scene and reportedly began firing celebratory shots into the air. In the chaos that followed, Inspector Kampani was hit by a stray pellet.

Emergency responders rushed the wounded officer to Cottage Hospital in Song, but medical personnel confirmed him dead upon arrival. His body has since been transferred to the morgue for an autopsy.

Law enforcement authorities have taken swift action following the incident. The JTF Commander, Adamu Zubairu, has been arrested in connection with the shooting, while police continue to search for other suspects involved in the incident.

The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Inspector Kampani's death.

This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in the region and raises questions about coordination between different security agencies and local vigilante groups operating in Adamawa State.

Authorities have yet to release further details as the investigation continues.
