Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has backed club captain Bruno Fernandes to remain at Old Trafford despite strong interest from the Saudi Pro League.
Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal have reportedly made a massive £200 million offer for the Portuguese midfielder and have demanded that Fernandes reach a decision before the end of May.
Speaking ahead of Manchester United's final Premier League match of the season against Aston Villa on Sunday, Amorim expressed optimism that his compatriot would choose to stay in England.
"It is important for Bruno [Fernandes] to see that we're changing a lot of things in our club," Amorim told TNT Sports regarding the Saudi interest. "The behaviour, everyday organisation, pace of training... and then he will want to stay at this club. He loves this club."
Fernandes, now 30, joined Manchester United from Portuguese club Sporting CP in January 2020 and has since become a pivotal figure at the club, taking on the captain's armband and establishing himself as one of the Premier League's most influential midfielders.
Amorim's comments suggest that significant changes are underway at Manchester United as they look to rebuild and retain their key players ahead of next season. The manager appears confident that these improvements will convince Fernandes to reject the lucrative Saudi offer and continue his career at Old Trafford.
The midfielder's potential departure would be a major blow to United's ambitions, but Amorim's positive tone indicates the club is working hard behind the scenes to ensure their captain remains committed to their project.
