Troops of Operation Lafiyan Jama'a have recorded a significant victory against banditry in Plateau State, neutralizing a suspected bandit and recovering weapons during an early morning raid on Thursday.

Acting on credible intelligence, soldiers from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Shendam launched a precision operation at approximately 5:00 a.m. on a criminal hideout in Teng village, Qua'an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to military sources, the operation resulted in a firefight between the troops and the suspects, leading to the death of one bandit. The remaining members of the gang reportedly fled the scene.

During the operation, the military recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The weapons have been taken into military custody for further investigation.

Military sources confirmed that troops expended 17 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition during the engagement with the bandits.

"Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend other fleeing members of the bandit gang," a security source stated, adding that the military is intensifying operations across volatile areas in the North Central region.

This operation represents part of the broader efforts by Nigerian security forces to combat the rising insecurity in the northern regions of the country, where banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes have become increasingly prevalent.

The successful raid in Plateau State follows similar recent operations against insurgent groups in other parts of northern Nigeria, demonstrating the military's continued commitment to restoring peace and security across affected regions.
