Repentant militia leader, Amakaa Akwaza, popularly known as 'Overall Konyo', has reportedly relocated from Benue State following a military operation that destroyed his camp in Gbishe, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.

According to sources, Konyo has moved to neighboring Nasarawa State after Nigerian military troops successfully dismantled his base. The militia leader announced his departure in a post on his official Facebook page.

Prior to the military operation, Konyo and his gang had reportedly agreed to embrace peace in the Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo Federal Constituency following intervention by the Sankera Peace and Reconciliation Committee, headed by Bishop Isaac Dugu of Katsina-Ala Diocese.

Captain Abdullahi Lawal Osabo, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 401 SF Brigade/Sector 1 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), confirmed on Monday that troops of the 72 Special Forces Battalion, in collaboration with other security agencies, had stormed and destroyed camps linked to Konyo in Gbise.

The Commander of OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for the successful operation and urged them to maintain pressure on criminal elements threatening peace and security in Benue State.

Before the military raid, Konyo had posted cryptic messages on his social media timeline, including "a soo ga i sawa" (meaning "let the worst happen") followed by another post stating that "God is above all."

The development marks a significant turn in ongoing efforts to address militia activities in Benue State's troubled regions, where various armed groups have contributed to insecurity over the years.

Security analysts are watching closely to see if Konyo's relocation will impact the fragile peace process initiated by the reconciliation committee in the Sankera area.
