The Gombe State Police Command has arrested 25 suspects in connection with a violent attack on CSP Adamu Alhaji-Idi, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kwadon Division, who was brutally assaulted while performing his official duties in Kwadon town.

According to a statement released by DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer, the attack occurred on Tuesday, May 20, and was allegedly carried out by a group of suspected hoodlums locally known as 'Kalare', who are notorious for terrorizing communities across Gombe State.

The DPO sustained serious injuries during the assault, including a deep forehead wound, necessitating immediate medical attention at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he is currently receiving treatment.

"The Gombe State Police Command strongly condemns the recent violent attack on a serving Divisional Police Officer and wishes to inform the general public of the ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice," DSP Abdullahi stated in the official release.

The Command reportedly received a distress call around 9:00 a.m. on the day of the incident from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations. This prompted an immediate deployment of tactical officers from Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madaki, to the scene.

"Following coordinated tactical operations, 25 suspects, all residents of Kwadon town, were arrested in connection with the incident. They are currently in police custody undergoing a discreet investigation. Upon conclusion, they will be charged to court," the police spokesperson confirmed.

In response to the incident, the Gombe State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police, visited Kwadon to assess the situation firsthand. During the visit, they met with officers on the ground and reassured the community of the command's unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order.

The police issued a stern warning to potential troublemakers, with DSP Abdullahi emphasizing that "the era of attacking security personnel with impunity is over." He reaffirmed the command's zero-tolerance stance on violence against law enforcement officers, stating that "anyone found guilty of disrupting public peace or endangering the lives of law enforcement officers will face the full weight of the law."

The police have urged residents of Kwadon and the wider Gombe community to remain law-abiding and cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. The Command has promised to ensure that justice prevails and peace is restored to the affected area.

This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by law enforcement personnel in parts of northern Nigeria, where local criminal groups continue to pose significant threats to community safety and public order.
