The approval was officially announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Wednesday's plenary session.
Oba Akinyemi noted that the new university is expected to provide youth with access to cutting-edge technology and innovative education, empowering them to drive progress and development in the region.
"The conversion of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to FUTI is a significant development that is expected to transform the educational landscape of Yewa Land," the traditional ruler stated.
"The people of Yewa Land are rejoicing over this achievement, and I express my gratitude to President Tinubu for making our dream a reality. This landmark upgrade will provide our youth with access to cutting-edge technology and innovative education, empowering them to drive progress and development in our division and Ogun State as a whole," he added.
The monarch also extended his appreciation to Senator Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, for his tireless efforts in advocating for the establishment of a federal university in Yewa Land.
In his remarks, Oba Akinyemi urged all Ogun West politicians to shun politics of witch-hunting and selfishness, emphasizing that individual ambitions should be secondary to the collective interest of Ogun West.
The upgrade of the institution to university status is expected to significantly enhance educational opportunities for students in the region and contribute to technological advancement in Ogun State.
