The Katsina State Police Command has successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued five victims in Faskari Local Government Area, according to an official statement released by the Command's spokesman, DSP Sadiq Aliyu.

The incident occurred when armed bandits attacked a Hummer bus with registration number T0510 KN and a white Mendez truck with registration number LFA 508 YR at Unguwar Basau along the Funtua-Gusau road. Police received a distress call about the attack at approximately 9:37 p.m.

Responding swiftly to the situation, a police patrol team engaged the criminals in what authorities described as an "operation fire for fire." The officers successfully overpowered the bandits with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat.

All five kidnapped victims—two drivers and three passengers—were safely rescued during the operation. However, four of the victims sustained injuries during the attack and are currently receiving medical treatment at Sheme Primary Health Centre.

The State Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing, with further updates expected as the investigation progresses.

This successful rescue operation comes amid growing concerns about kidnapping and banditry in Nigeria's northwestern region, with Katsina being one of the states significantly affected by such security challenges.

The police command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents and travelers within the state, urging citizens to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
