Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to harness the country's rich cultural diversity as a foundation for national unity and collective strength.

Speaking on Wednesday during the commemoration of the 2025 World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, Mrs. Tinubu highlighted the unique position of Nigeria as a nation blessed with over 250 ethnic groups, each with distinct languages and traditions.

"There is indeed strength and unity in diversity. Nigeria, for example, is blessed with over 250 ethnic groups, each speaking a different language, but it is through our dialogue, our interactions, and our mutual respect that we find true identity and unity," the First Lady stated.

She emphasized that the World Day for Cultural Diversity underscores the profound strength that lies in our differences while celebrating the shared humanity that connects all Nigerians regardless of ethnic background.

Mrs. Tinubu encouraged citizens to embrace the country's cultural richness, practice empathetic listening, and lead with understanding. "Let us embrace this journey together and shape a brighter future for Nigeria and the world," she added.

The First Lady's message comes at a time when Nigeria continues to navigate complex social and political dynamics across its diverse population, reinforcing the importance of cultural dialogue as a tool for national development and peaceful coexistence.

The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, observed annually on May 21, was established by the United Nations to promote cultural diversity as an essential component for dialogue and development.
