Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called for unity and shared prosperity among Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora as Muslims celebrate this year's Eid-el-Kabir festival.
In a statement shared on his Facebook handle on Friday, the former Nigerian leader extended warm greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and worldwide, emphasizing the significance of the occasion as a time for deep reflection, sacrifice, and communal harmony.
Values of Faith and Sacrifice
Jonathan described the Sallah celebration as "a profound reminder of the enduring values of faith, devotion, sacrifice, and generosity" that resonate across humanity regardless of religious affiliations.
"On this blessed occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, I extend my warmest greetings and heartfelt felicitations to our Muslim brothers and sisters across Nigeria and around the world," Jonathan stated.
"This significant day serves as a profound reminder of the virtues of faith, sacrifice, devotion, and generosity, which are values that resonate deeply across all humanity," he added.
Call for National Rededication
The former president used the occasion to urge Nigerians to rededicate themselves to building a future characterized by lasting peace, progress, and collective prosperity. His message comes at a time when the nation continues to grapple with various socio-economic challenges.
Jonathan's Sallah message aligns with similar calls from other national leaders and organizations who have used the festive period to advocate for tolerance, peace, and national cohesion.
Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah's command.
