Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has publicly called on former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to join Southeast governors in working with President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Speaking during a feature interview for an upcoming State House documentary commemorating Tinubu's second anniversary in office, Umahi highlighted what he described as "tremendous infrastructural improvement" across the Southeast under the current administration.

"All the governors in the Southeast, regardless of party affiliation, are working with the President," Umahi stated. "We're even planning a summit to bring together all Southeast leaders to formally endorse the President for the 2027 elections."

The Minister emphasized that President Tinubu represents "the fairness Igbos have been advocating for" and directly addressed Peter Obi: "I call on my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, to join us and work with Mr. President. He must be part of this summit where we will collectively endorse President Tinubu for the 2027 election."

Umahi further asserted, "I say it boldly: the Southeast is happy with the President."

Ongoing Infrastructure Projects

According to the Minister, several significant infrastructure projects are currently underway across the Southeast region, including the Port Harcourt to Enugu, Enugu to Abakaliki, Enugu to Onitsha, and Onitsha to Owerri highways.

The Tinubu administration has also appointed several ministers from the Southeast and has been addressing security challenges in the region, which were exacerbated following the detention of Biafra activist Nnamdi Kanu on terrorism allegations.

Security agencies have reportedly made progress in subduing the activities of unknown gunmen who had been causing unrest in the region.

This call for unity comes as political stakeholders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the Tinubu administration marking its second year in office amid mixed reviews of its performance across different sectors.
