Suspected bandits have attacked Garin Idi, the ancestral village of Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Dr. Idris Muhammad Gobir, abducting several residents during a late-night raid on Monday.

According to security analyst Bakatsine, who first reported the incident on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the attack was allegedly led by notorious bandit kingpin Kallamu Buzu.

"Moment ago, notorious bandits kingpin Kallamu Buzu attacked Garin Idi community in Sabon Birni LGA, Sokoto State. The ancestral home of Sokoto Deputy Governor Dr. Idris Muhammad Gobir. Several residents were abducted during the raid," Bakatsine wrote.

The exact number of residents abducted remains unconfirmed as of the time of this report. The attack occurred in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, a region that has experienced recurring security challenges in recent years.

As of Tuesday morning, neither the Sokoto State Police Command nor state government officials had issued an official statement regarding the incident.

This attack adds to the growing security concerns in Nigeria's northwestern region, where banditry, kidnapping for ransom, and other violent crimes have become increasingly prevalent despite government efforts to address the situation.

BenriNews will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
